How to get there

Muotathal is situated in the heart of Switzerland and is easy to reach by car.

From Basel via Lucerne:
At Lucerne take the A14 motorway towards Zug. After 20 km you will arrive at the Rutihof motorway intersection. From here take the A4 towards Schwyz. Leave the motorway at the Schwyz exit and follow the signs for Muotathal.

From Lake Constance via Rapperswil:
At Rapperswil head towards Pfäffikon / Gotthard. At Pfäffikon follow the A3 motorway a short distance towards Gotthard. Take the first exit towards Gotthard / Schwyz. The road then takes you via Rothenthurm and Sattel towards Schwyz. At Schwyz follow the directions for Muotathal.

From Gotthard / Altdorf:
At Flüelen take the bypass tunnel towards Schwyz. After the Mosi tunnel leave the motorway at exit 40 Brunnen (direction Weggis/Gersau/Schwyz/Brunnen). Head towards Ibach/Schwyz and at the second roundabout in Ibach (at Dany's Family Restaurant) take the first exit towards Muotathal.



Spectator Access

Arriving by public transport:

A half-hourly bus service runs from Schwyz railway station to Muotathal (Bus no. 1, Arth Goldau - Lauerz - Schwyz, Muotathal). The journey time is 24 minutes. Get off at the Ried, Vordere Brücke stop, which is at the race finish.

Spectators arriving by car have a choice of 5 car parks along the road leading into the Mutoathal valley.
Car parks P1 to P4 are free, clearly signed and staffed by our team of volunteers.
The car parks with spaces available at any time are indicated on a large roadside sign. It is strongly recommended not to proceed beyond the indicated official carpark as there are no other car parks available further up the valley.
Carpark P5 is a reserve car park only.  This is the official public car park of the Stoosbahnen AG funicular and can be used only if the appropriate parking fee is paid.
On competition days a regular shuttle bus service will run from all car parks to the competition arena near the race finish.

Parking is very limited. For this reason it is essential to use public transport when attending the races in Muotathal.

Information and Merchandise Stand
Throughout the competition, the information and merchandise stand will be located near the marquee in the Kanu-Arena.
The official competition office is located in the multi-purpose hall in Muotathal village at Stumpenmatt 3, 6436 Muotathal.

The press centre is in the official competition office in Muotathal village.

Free WLAN access is available in the official competition office.
Limited WLAN access is also available in the competition arena.

Throughout the region of Muotathal and neighbouring Illgau a wide range of hotels, holiday apartments and guesthouses is available. In order to make a booking we request that you contact the establishments on the list directly.

Further information about the accomodation available can be obtained by visiting their websites or by phoning them directly. Alternatively, the team at the Stoos-Muotatal Tourist Office will be glad to help in your search. We recommend you make your bookings early. Please mention that you are booking in connection with the Canoe World Championships as some accommodation has already been set aside for your needs.

The"Erlebniswelt Muotathal" near the start offers a limited number of hard standings with electricity for camper vans and a small area for tents. Showers and toilet facilities are located in the main building. Bookings should be made directly with Erlebniswelt on +41 (0)41 831 81 50.

Accommodation in the Stoos-Muotatal Region

Canoe World Championships temporary camp site
Overnight camping accommodation will be available mid-way along the course, near the entrance to the village of Muotathal.
Running water and showers will be provided on site. Electric hook-ups for mobile homes and camper vans will be available as will charging points for mobile phones computers and tablets.
Sufficient land is available to increase the camping area if demand requires. However, we have only limited capacity for mobile homes and camper vans.
For this reason it is essential that you reserve a space via the Stoos-Muotatal Tourist Office. Spaces cannot be guaranteed for mobile homes and camper vans who have not pre-booked.
